International Conference on 23 – 24 May in Bonn »Migration – Integration. Schools manage diversity!«
23/05/16 11:00 am to 24/05/16 01:30 pm

The integration of the large number of refugee children who recently arrived in Germany and other European countries represents a huge challenge for schools. The successful acquisition of the working language and a purposeful vocational education in preparation for the labour market are of particular importance for their successful integration into schools and society. Many teachers face new challenges. Their professional and didactic qualifications are a key for coping with the requirements. Furthermore, schools have to create the social and cultural preconditions for a succeeding integration. In the receiving school community, tolerance, democratic education and intercultural competencies have to be promoted.
The conference will collect experiences and results from international school exchange programmes and facilitate their exploitation to support the integration of young refugees. The following issues will be addressed:
- Intercultural school development and pedagogical concepts for school diversity
- Promotion of intercultural and interreligious competences, of tolerance and democratic values
- Language learning in the context of multilingualism
- Vocational education and preparation for the labour market
